Daybreak New Look Unveiled

ITV have today unveiled the new look for their breakfast show Daybreak.

Daybreak launched in 2010 with presenters Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley. However, they were axed at the end of 2011 due to falling ratings and replaced temporarily with Kate Garraway and Dan Lobb, the show’s entertainment and sports editors respectively.

The team searched for a new set of presenters and eventually decided on Lorraine Kelly and Aled Jones, the former of which will continue with her normal solo show between 8:30am and 9:25am. They will present together between 7am and 8:30am.

New presenters Matt Barbett (Channel 5 News) and Ranvir Singh (North West Tonight) take up the post as presenters of the first hour, similar to GMTV’s “newshour”. Gethin Jones, Richard Arnold and Dr Hilary also form part of the on air talent.

ITV have totally revamped the logo for the series which will begin on Monday (September 3rd) at 6am, ITV1.

How very reminiscent of the old GMTV logo. I'm afraid this is about 22 months too late. BBC Breakfast own the slot and they'd really have to screw up big time to lose their lead.

As a flitter viewer between BBC Breakfast and Daybreak, I was quick to notice that Lorraine was on the sofa earlier...? Ah, is this a new schedule? Wait a minute, who's that next to her? Ah, they've had a revamp, yes? Well, after that I was glued, mainly to see exactly what the style and content of this revamp included... definitely usual first day nerves, delays on location pieces to camera, exaggerated giggling and smiling, as cameras returned to the sofa after a commercial break, with a edgy newness to the co-presenting duo. Aled has linked in quite nicely and is much more personable than Dan Lobb (sorry Dan), but Lorraine appears desperate to look the part and it shows. Once it passed the 8.30 mark and she was solo, she recovered her usual, natural self. I do hope it works for both her an Aled, although, she needs to flush the earlier schedule with more of her Scottish charm. There's no point trying to echo BBC. To improve the viewing, do more of what raises the figures - increase the 'Lorraine' slot and keep earlier two-man presenting to an hour. If more people start tuning in at 8am to watch Lorraine, then there's your answer. Aled will be a welcome 'prop' for an hour, but nothing more. Lorraine will own it all...one day.
